2025 Honda Odyssey Review: Getting the Job Done

Is the Honda Odyssey a Good Minivan?

  • The 2025 Honda Odyssey is a good minivan, with ample seating in all three rows, solid in-cabin storage and tons of usable cargo space. It also has user-friendly technology, though that tech is nowhere near class-leading.

How Does the Honda Odyssey Compare With Other Minivans?

  • To different degrees, all minivans excel at hauling people and stuff. The 2025 Honda Odyssey is one of those, with the biggest flaw on its resume being a lack of powertrain options. A gas-only 3.5-liter V-6 engine is the only one offered, and it only comes with front-wheel drive. Aside from the gas-only Chrysler Voyager, all other minivans on the market are available as either a traditional hybrid (Kia Carnival, Toyota Sienna) or a plug-in hybrid (Chrysler Pacifica). Both the Pacifica and the Sienna also offer all-wheel drive.

How Much Does the 2025 Honda Odyssey Cost?

As of this writing, pricing for the 2025 Honda Odyssey is as follows (all prices include destination fee):

  • EX-L: $43,670
  • Sport-L: $44,820
  • Touring: $48,360
  • Elite: $52,630

For this review, I tested an Odyssey Elite, which includes all the bells and whistles you can get on an Odyssey. Its equipment list included a rear entertainment system (which comes standard on the Touring and Elite trim levels), heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, two-tone leather upholstery, a hands-free power liftgate and much more.

Is the 2025 Honda Odyssey Good at Carrying People and Cargo?

Where the Odyssey excels is in its interior space and packaging. Up front, the cockpit is roomy and airy, with a centrally mounted electronic gear selector that frees up center console space for large-item storage. The front seats are comfortable enough for long-distance trips.

In the second row, the standard bench seat — which can fit three car seats — easily converts into captain’s chairs with the middle seat removed, which is when the real magic happens. The remaining captain’s chairs are what Honda calls Magic Slide seats, and they can slide forward, backward and side to side. This results in a number of useful seating configurations. Pushing the two seats together into a buddy seat configuration opens up a wide path to the third row from the sliding door — almost like a passenger van, in which the rearmost seat is the width of the van but the benches ahead of it are shorter to allow access to the wayback. My son’s rear-facing car seat could also still be in the middle second-row seating position, giving an adult easier access to him while driving (and keeping him in probably the safest spot in the van). In the Odyssey, interior quality dips once you get to the third row, but those sitting back there have plenty of space, cupholders, USB-C charge ports and air vents.

On the cargo-hauling front, there’s ample storage space with all three rows of seats in place, but folding the third row down creates a flat floor all the way to the second-row seatbacks, with tons of room for larger items. To accommodate the largest items, those second-row seats can be removed entirely. During my test drive, my family had enough space for three adults, their luggage and a 1-year-old in a car seat — buddy seat configuration plus all of his accoutrements — with tons of cargo room to spare.

How Good Is the 2025 Honda Odyssey’s Interior Technology?

The answer to this question depends on your personal definition of “good technology.” I find Honda’s non-Google-based infotainment system intuitive and easy to use. For 2025, the Odyssey gets an upgrade that increases the system’s screen size to 9 inches and adds a faster processor. The system also includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity. The entire gauge cluster isn’t digital, but a portion of it is, and it’s easy to navigate the menus there and configure the display to show the information you want to see — for example, fuel economy and range during a long road trip.

On the other hand, the Odyssey’s displays look dated. In terms of size and modernity, they’re nowhere near what you’ll find in the Kia Carnival —  and the Kia’s touchscreen is easier to use, too. But if all you want in your vehicle is a solid system that works, and you’re not worried about the latest gadgets and gizmos, the Odyssey will suit you just fine. One old-school touch we appreciate is the inclusion of physical climate and audio controls.

Other technology inside the Odyssey is more of a mixed bag. Available CabinWatch and CabinTalk systems feel a bit gimmicky to me. CabinWatch, which is included on higher trims, is an interior camera system that shows front-seat occupants what’s going on in the seats behind them (though if your child is in a rear-facing car seat, all you’ll see is the back of the seat). It’s more useful if you have third-row passengers, but finding the feature in the touchscreen and activating it while driving feels at least as distracting as it would be to simply turn around and look. Best to leave both actions to red lights. Better than viewing passengers while driving is the Odyssey’s standard rear-seat reminder system, which helps owners ensure they haven’t accidentally left anyone behind when leaving the car.

The standard CabinTalk system is an in-car intercom that can interrupt audio on the available built-in entertainment system and amplify your voice through the car. This feels more useful than CabinWatch, but still a little silly — and if your passengers have their own headphones on, you might still have to raise your voice or wave your hands to get their attention.

As for that built-in entertainment system, while it’s nice to have, it is a single-screen system — so hopefully your passengers’ viewing preferences align! — and Honda has dropped the built-in Blu-ray player. Now you must bring your own streaming device and connect it to the system via an HDMI cable. That’s one more thing to pack, stow in the center console and not leave inside the van overnight. At that point, maybe it makes more sense just to mount a personal tablet on the back of the front seat and keep the built-in, overhead screen folded up.

What Safety Systems Does the 2025 Honda Odyssey Have?

Every 2025 Odyssey comes standard with the Honda Sensing suite of active-safety tech, which includes collision mitigation braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane-centering steering, road departure mitigation and adaptive cruise control. The systems did their jobs unobtrusively during my drive. When we encountered a snowstorm, the snow piled up over a sensor in the grille that was necessary for the adaptive cruise control system to function. Not only did the Odyssey warn me that adaptive cruise control was no longer available, the gauge cluster displayed an image to let me know which sensor to clean off.

The 2025 Odyssey is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety 2024 Top Safety Pick and has a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

How Does the 2025 Honda Odyssey Drive?

Driving dynamics are probably not top of mind for most minivan shoppers — which is why this section falls toward the end of this review — but for those who do want to enjoy the ride in their minivan, here it is: The Odyssey, regardless of trim, is powered by a 280-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine that’s paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and FWD. The combination works fine, with ample power for highway driving and enough extra for merging and passing maneuvers, though the transmission does behave lethargically at higher speeds and is reluctant to downshift. Its suspension is firmly tuned (typical of a Honda), and the steering is numb and heavily boosted, resulting in a fairly busy, harsh ride; there’s a feeling of constantly sawing at the steering wheel. None of this is a deal breaker for me, but it’s disappointing that Honda — which produces some of the more fun-to-drive vehicles in the segments in which it competes — couldn’t reproduce some of that magic here.

Also disappointing is a lack of powertrain choices. The Odyssey isn’t the only single-powertrain minivan on the market; the Toyota Sienna is hybrid-only, but with that model, you can at least choose front- or all-wheel drive. Kia offers gas-only and hybrid versions of its Carnival minivan, and the Chrysler Pacifica has the most variety, offering FWD, AWD and a plug-in hybrid version in addition to its base gas-only V-6.

The Odyssey’s estimated fuel economy is in line with its gas-only competitors, but it significantly trails its hybrid and plug-in hybrid competition:

Gas-Only 2025 Minivans

  • Honda Odyssey: 19/28/22 mpg city/highway/combined
  • Chrysler Voyager: 19/28/22 mpg
  • Chrysler Pacifica (FWD): 19/28/22 mpg
  • Kia Carnival: 18/26/21 mpg
  • Chrysler Pacifica (AWD): 17/25/20 mpg

Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid 2025 Minivans

  • Chrysler Pacifica PHEV: 82 mpg-equivalent combined during 32-mile electric-only range, 30 mpg when battery is depleted
  • Toyota Sienna (FWD): 36/36/36 mpg
  • Toyota Sienna (AWD): 34/36/35 mpg
  • Kia Carnival Hybrid: 34/31/33 mpg

Is the 2025 Honda Odyssey Similar to the Acura NSX?

No. While the Odyssey does have a 3.5-liter V-6 engine like the second-generation NSX, and it now wears that vehicle’s upright rear bumper reflectors, that’s where the similarities end. (I find that pretty funny, though.)

Should You Buy a 2025 Honda Odyssey?

If you’re looking for a competent hauler of both people and things, a minivan is tough to beat, and the Odyssey excels in both those areas. Its fuel economy isn’t exceptional, but while its tech is not the most advanced, it remains easy to use. Minivan shoppers have a very short list of models left to consider given the dwindling size of the class, and I see no reason to take the Honda Odyssey out of consideration.

2025 GMC Terrain Review: Stylish but Slow

By Aaron Bragman

Is the GMC Terrain a Good SUV?

  • Mechanically identical to the less expensive but equally stylish Chevrolet Equinox, the redesigned 2025 GMC Terrain has the same wins (comfort, style and content) and losses (lackluster powertrain and sloppy handling) as its cheaper Chevy cousin, but it has a more polished interior.

How Does the GMC Terrain Compare With Other SUVs?

  • It’s as comfortable, stylish, useful and well built as many of its competitors, but the Terrain’s anemic acceleration and uninspiring handling place it mid-pack at best among the top sellers in its class.

The compact SUV class is chock-full of competitive, affordable and useful entries — and even a few fun-to-drive ones, too — so making a splash with a redesigned model is difficult. It has to get noticed, meaning there must be something special enough about it to shake buyers out of a purchasing inertia that pushes them to just buy the latest version of whatever they already own.

GMC is making a play to do just that with its new 2025 Terrain. It’s a complete redesign that replaces the not-terribly-impressive outgoing model with something that’s decidedly stylish, full of the latest tech, and delivers comfort and space aplenty for five people and their stuff.

As a class, compact SUVs are replacing mid-size family sedans in most Americans’ garages, but the Terrain hasn’t been the model to do so. Has GMC gone far enough in its update of the Terrain to push out the Honda CR-Vs and Toyota RAV4s that have become commonplace in those garages? In some ways yes, in other ways no.

How Much Does a 2025 GMC Terrain Cost?

On sale right now, the new 2025 Terrain comes in just one trim level, called Elevation, with front- or all-wheel drive. The prices below include a $1,395 destination charge:

  • FWD: $31,395
  • AWD: $33,395

Two additional trims are slated to come later this year, including an off-road-oriented AT4 and a more luxurious Denali — two common GMC trim names that (ironically) “elevate” the Terrain in different ways. The AT4 brings some off-road ability thanks to a lifted ride height and some underbody protection, while Denali is GMC’s popular luxury sub-brand that accounts for a significant percentage of the automaker’s sales of vehicles like the Sierra pickup and Yukon SUV. Pricing for the Terrain AT4 and Denali was not available as of publication.

The price of my loaded AWD Elevation trim came to $40,910, including a Premium Package that added a power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, a hands-free power liftgate and simulated leather upholstery. Other options included a panoramic moonroof and the Technology Package, which brought a rearview camera mirror, front foglamps, a 360-degree camera system and rear pedestrian alert. Oddly, a premium audio system isn’t available on the Elevation trim.

The Terrain’s pricing is pretty dead-on with its competitors, coming in a bit higher than a comparable Chevrolet Equinox (understandable given GMC’s more premium aesthetic) and in the ballpark of the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Nissan Rogue, Toyota RAV4 and Volkswagen Tiguan. Suffice it to say, the 2025 Terrain Elevation is competitively priced. It remains to be seen whether that will be true of the forthcoming AT4 and Denali.

How Does the 2025 GMC Terrain Drive?

The Terrain is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. If you get the FWD model, it’s mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission and makes 175 horsepower and 184 pounds-feet of torque. If you opt for AWD, horsepower stays the same, but torque is bumped to 203 pounds-feet, and the CVT is swapped for a transmission with actual gears: an eight-speed automatic. That’s the transmission my test car had, and just like in the Equinox, it’s the Terrain’s worst feature.

“Lackluster” is the best word to describe this powertrain. Acceleration is tepid; the power band is narrow; and the transmission is slow to kick down when you want more power. A telling sign of GMC’s intent for this engine is the fact that it doesn’t include Sport among its available drive modes, only Normal, Off-Road and Mud/Snow.

Adding to the Terrain’s muddled driving experience is handling that’s squishy and soft instead of solid and precise. The Terrain wanders around in its lane, and turn-in on twisty roads is lazy and soft. There isn’t much in the way of feedback or confidence in the responses the steering and suspension give to the driver. Yes, this is a family SUV with more luxurious pretenses than some rivals in the class, but between its unimpressive acceleration and powertrain responses and its curiously sloppy handling, there isn’t much driving joy to be had in the Terrain.

So what does it do well? Its ride is supremely comfortable, with a smooth, beautifully absorbent suspension that transmits very few road imperfections to the cabin — and that was in spite of the big optional 19-inch wheels and tires on my test car. The cabin is quiet (unless you’ve floored the accelerator) and serene, exuding a calm, comfortable motoring experience in urban and highway environments. And that’s exactly what most owners will call upon it to do: carry people around with ease. That seems to be exactly what GMC’s engineers have tuned the Terrain for, and in this regard, it behaves very much like other new gas-powered GM SUVs; none have impressive powertrains or sharp handling, but every one I’ve driven has been comfortable, quiet and smooth over varying pavement. If you want athletic and entertaining, go try a CX-5 or even a CR-V. But if your biggest concern is comfort with minimal fuss, the Terrain fits that bill quite well.

Does the 2025 GMC Terrain Have a Nice Interior?

While the Terrain is mechanically identical to the Equinox in terms of the greasy bits underneath its sheet metal, the GMC’s cabin appointments clearly demonstrate why it has a higher price tag. The interior of my Elevation trim felt a bit more upscale than the last Equinox I tested thanks to more premium materials on the dash, doors and seats. That was also due in large part to the massive vertically oriented 15-inch touchscreen in the center of the Terrain’s dashboard. It’s the same one you’ll find in the much larger GMC Acadia SUV, where it also impresses.

The Terrain’s infotainment system runs the latest Google Built-In operating system, which is in many of GM’s newest vehicles. We find it to be clear and easy to use, with large icons and a useful home screen. And while GMC has moved a lot of the vehicle’s controls into the touchscreen (including the headlights), things that are most frequently used, like climate control and audio volume, still have physical controls. It might be the perfect combination of touchscreen and hard-button controls in a modern vehicle; kudos to GM for continuing to see the value in offering both to minimize driver distraction.

The only downside to the Terrain’s tech is its astonishingly bad audio system, which has terrible playback quality. As previously mentioned, there’s no premium audio option in the Elevation trim, but hopefully one is in the works for the AT4 or Denali, because the sound system in the Elevation is simply awful.

One benefit of the 15-inch touchscreen’s squarish layout is that when you fire up Apple CarPlay, it displays in one of the biggest CarPlay views I’ve ever seen. It fills the entire screen, which is quite useful. Combine that with its sharp, reconfigurable 11-inch digital gauge cluster, and the interior of the new Terrain looks and feels truly state-of-the-art. Throw in the premium materials, a plethora of safety features and technology, lots of comfort in the front and rear seats, and plentiful cargo space, and the new Terrain’s interior feels fully competitive with the best in the class.

Should You Buy a 2025 GMC Terrain?

When it comes to compact SUVs, the market is chock-full of good options that cover a significant price spread. The Terrain fits in the middle when it comes to price (at least until the Denali arrives) and capability, offering up plenty of tech, lots of comfort, excellent safety systems, and good utility compared with the likes of the CR-V, RAV4 and Rogue. It’s a mild step up from an Equinox, but what holds the Equinox back also prevents the Terrain from reaching class-leading status. Its powertrain is suboptimal and underpowered, and handling is uncharacteristically sloppy for a GM vehicle. If you’re more concerned about comfort and tech, though, than control and acceleration, the Terrain is worth your consideration.

2025 Ford Bronco Sport Sasquatch Review: Mythically Capable

By Conner Golden

April 10, 2025

Shareford bronco sport 2025 05 exterior front angle jpg

2025 Ford Bronco Sport | Cars.com photo by Melissa Klauda

Is the Ford Bronco Sport a Good SUV?

  • Equipped with serious all-terrain rubber, undercarriage armor and a clever all-wheel-drive system, the new 2025 Ford Bronco Sport Sasquatch is likely the most adventure- and off-road-capable compact SUV available.

How Does the Ford Bronco Sport Compare With Other SUVs?

  • If it’s off-road gumption you’re after, the Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness is the closest competitor, but with less power and available terrain tech. On a wider scale, look for serious commuter competition — but less character — from the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and Nissan Rogue.

If you’re in need of a compact SUV with genuine, real-deal off-road capability, you’d better ‘Squatch your Sport. Ahem — that is to say, ensure you order your 2025 Ford Bronco Sport with the new Sasquatch off-road package. It is, in my estimation, just about the most down-‘n-dirty, go-anywhere SUV you can have short of picking up something with true four-wheel drive.

Related: How Much Is the 2025 Ford Bronco Sport?

I mean it. A day spent bounding through the Mojave desert at Ford’s invitation in the updated Bronco Sport impressed me far more than I expected and realigned my perception of what all-wheel-drive platforms are capable of. There are still limitations, of course, but that fabulously named Sasquatch Package goes a long way in making sure you won’t think twice about tackling that alarmingly remote trailhead. (Per our ethics policy, Cars.com pays for all travel and lodging at such manufacturer-sponsored events.)ford bronco sport 2025 02 exterior dynamic offroad profile jpg2025 Ford Bronco Sport | Cars.com photo by Melissa Klauda

What Is the Bronco Sport Sasquatch?

We’ll start with the Squatch, especially since Ford’s gone to great lengths to make what might be the most confusing cross-trim package I’ve seen. It’s available on just two trims: the uplevel, comfort-oriented Outer Banks and the range-topping, dirt-hungry Badlands. Regardless of trim, all Squatches add aggressive all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels and steel skid plates, along with a few bits of utility hardware like a front brush guard and metal bumpers. That’s the easy bit.

The Sasquatch treatment brings the Bronco Sport Outer Banks’ capability closer to a base Badlands thanks to its trick twin-clutch rear differential. This is the first time the twin-clutch unit has been offered in conjunction with the Bronco Sport’s turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine.

Tick the Sasquatch kit when ordering your Badlands, and you’ll find that the rear shocks have been swapped for a set of position-sensitive Bilstein dampers. All Badlands variants also get a new sand-focused Rally mode in addition to the existing portfolio of driving modes. So, if the off-road capability of the standard Badlands wasn’t up to snuff, the Badlands with the Sasquatch pack should conceivably be the ultimate all-terrain adventure compact SUV.

Related Video:https://players.brightcove.net/1578086878/HyOJ1bP6_default/index.html?videoId=6371304142112

What Is the 2025 Bronco Sport Like to Drive?

I started in the heart of downtown San Diego, facing down a roughly hour-and-a-half drive to the off-road basecamp. A Bronco Sport with the Black Diamond off-road package was the assigned sled, and it painted a solid picture of the refreshed Bronco Sport’s on-road character. Only, outside of the Sasquatch Package and some new driver-assist features, the Bronco Sport’s tarmac capability hasn’t changed one bit; the rest of the refresh was primarily a tech upgrade, with every Bronco Sport now fitted with a standard 13.2-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. The infotainment system runs on Ford’s Sync 4 digital architecture that’s fast, intuitive, and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Badlands Sasquatch was first up for an off-road sand scrub. Our guided, follow-the-leader conga line of Badlands started with a trivial march over some pebbled hard pack that soon gave way to a field of soft sand, where we were encouraged to engage the new Rally mode. Now, in this mode, engine rpm is kept higher and accelerator response is sharpened, in addition to the stuff that happens behind the scenes to the AWD system and traction control parameters. Rally mode is good for some (reasonable) tail-out antics, but this sandy scramble was just a short obstacle to reach our first semi-technical challenge.

I picked the trickiest of three ascents offered, with the moderately steep climb of crumbled sandstone providing an opportunity to upset the Bronco Sport’s traction. The Sasquatch’s 29-inch Goodyear all-terrain tires bit hard, with clear power transfer in the AWD system that had me up and over the crest with little issue. That said, I did notice a little clutch smell from it.

Next was a rather severe low-speed descent, necessitating a team of spotters and careful corner placement. The updated hill descent control was just the trick, maintaining a 1 mph trail cruise without any driver inputs save steering. Seriously impressive stuff for a compact SUV, especially considering not one of us got even remotely stuck.

The Sasquatch’s special rear Bilstein shocks are the biggest change for the Badlands. Ride quality over washboard surfaces and through the slower, more precarious stuff was remarkably composed and significantly improved over the Outer Banks Sasquatch’s setup. Speaking of the Outer Banks, that was up next, with its separate loop starting much in the same way with hard, gravely trails.

The Bilsteins were immediately missed — especially by Cars.com videographer and backseat passenger Max Bednarski. The overall capability, however, wasn’t far off the top Badlands, with both trims having the same tires and twin-clutch rear differential. This was a less intense route, though, with only a single instance of three-wheel seesawing providing a challenge beyond point-and-shoot driving.

Should You Buy a Bronco Sport Sasquatch?

Great little adventure vehicles, these. The Bronco Sport is already one of Ford’s more popular vehicles, but it’s almost a shame Land Rover isn’t still under the automaker’s purview — a Bronco Sport rebadged as a Discovery Sport would do crazy numbers.

Seriously, unless you find yourself in situations necessitating low-range 4WD and locked differentials, I reckon a 2025 Ford Bronco Sport with the Sasquatch Package to be all the SUV you’ll need. And that is about the highest praise I can bestow on a unibody AWD compact SUV.
